Okay, maybe I really spent the day at Chip and Joanna’s. I decided to make up an excuse to take the day off to go to Waco during the middle of the week. So we grabbed our masks and hand sanitizer and headed out. Trust me, everywhere we went, everyone was masked up! Was glad to see it.
Little Shop on Bosque
To start our day in Waco, we stopped at the “original” Magnolia store, now known as the “Little Shop on Bosque”. Trust me on this one, if you blink you’ll miss it. Pay close attention to the address, it’s next to a church and across the street from a strip center. It’s mostly used now as a “clearance center” type of store, but there are still cute things to be had. I bought a couple of kitchen towels. I have used Magnolia towels before and love them! Here’s a few pictures from the store:
Magnolia Table
Then the hubs and I headed over to Magnolia Table for lunch. We didn’t really know what to expect for crowds and had not made reservations ahead of time. We had about a 45 minute wait but that was only because of the limited occupancy due to this darn COVID-19 thing. Check out the menu ahead of time. It is not a large menu and they only serve during breakfast and lunch hours, closing at 3. Their menu has plenty of choices tho.
We started with “Jo’s Buttermilk Bisquits w/strawberry butter”, because how can you not, even when we knew we were going to eat lunch. Honestly, I had to know if they were as good as they look on TV. My husband ordered the Southwestern Burger”. It was piled high with avocado and he said the meat was really good. It came with “Tater Tots”. They had to be the biggest tater tots I’ve ever seen. Admittedly, I tried one and it was very yummy. He gave the meal a thumbs up. I got the “Our Table Salad”, it had roasted chicken with some marinated asparagus, pecans and cranberries with a really nice vinaigrette dressing to compliment it. We definitely enjoyed the meal. It was not a cheap fast food meal but we did get out for about $50 overall and we even had a few leftovers for later.

The Silos
Then, it was on to the Magnolia Silos. I have been once before with my sisters and mom, however, it was the first visit for my husband. He was surprised how close it was to downtown Waco. It is really just a little off of I-35, almost in the heart of the city. Beware I-35 through Waco is a mess because there is lots of road construction, so pack your patience pills when you go. Please also know that the Silos themselves has lots of construction going on as well. Here’s the latest information about the Silos Expansion Plans.
Again, because we went during the week, we didn’t have the large crowds to deal with. Trust me about the weekend thing, parking is horrible, it’s super crowded and you have to wait to get into everything. It’s even worse during this whole COVID-19 thing. Limited occupancy everywhere makes the lines even worse. But lucky Wednesday us, we were pretty much able to go into everything without a wait. Since we had just had lunch we didn’t even go into the bakery. We were pretty proud we were able to skip the calories. ?
Magnolia Market @ The Silos Yum…coffee
Open on the grounds right now are the Magnolia Bakery, the Magnolia Market (mostly home décor/accessories), the Magnolia Press (Coffeehouse) and the newly opened Magnolia Home (all things furniture). It’s always fun to wonder thru and see what is available. It truly is like walking thru a home Joanna and Chip have just remodeled. You can see her style everywhere. I loved seeing a wall of Jimmie Don’s signs as well. I loved the work he did for the Fixer Upper series. We did have to get the husband a #demoday shirt because “he needed it.” You will notice that her books are available everywhere in the stores as well or you can get them on Amazon at these links for a little cheaper (keep in mind I may receive a commission when you click my link and make purchases. It will not affect what you pay.)
I’m sharing some pictures of our visit. When they finish their expansion plans (they say Fall, 2020), I’ll go back to check out the latest. However, I think I’ll wait until some of the new-craziness wears off, maybe Spring 2021 and once again go during the week. It’s a win all the way around.
