Hey I could Do That

Hey I could Do That

Do you find yourself saying that frequently? I may be watching one of the cool fixer-upper/do it yourself shows on TV and I think, “Hey, I could do that!” . I could be spending great quality time sitting in my chair checking out Pinterest and saying “Hey, I want to try that!” I may see some great travel pictures and think, “Hey, I want to go there!” I could be eating some take-out food and think “Hey, I could make this!” But truthfully, usually a few minutes later, I’m thinking it’s easier to just order it anyway…but not always. Sometimes, I really do cook and am always looking for new recipes to try. I’m especially interested in recipes that taste great and are “reasonably” healthy. I know sometimes it’s hard but I really do try to watch what I eat. I’ll share my weight story with you in another post a little later. It has been quite a journey for me.
I love kitchen gadgets and have been known to lose myself in some of the kitchen gadget shows on QVC. Thanks to “In The Kitchen With David“, I have a kitchen full of cool stuff. It does get used but probably not as often as it should. But I’m not getting rid of any of it, I like it and I do use it on occasion. Even my husband doesn’t complain about the gadgets. He likes to eat (and doesn’t cook at all) so he knows better.
And before you say anything about my non-cooking husband…let me just say, he is the best damn clothes-washer/laundry guy in Texas. I mean he does it all in this household. I will not complain for a minute about the non-cooking guy. I like to cook but I absolutely hate laundry. #ihatelaundry
As to why I’m starting a blog. I am moving into a different phase of life. I will be retiring from an executive position within the federal government in a few years and am excited about what the next phase looks like. Right now, I’m a married, mostly empty nester who likes to try all kinds of new things. Just ask the husband and son. I’ve heard “There are more boxes on the porch.” “What are you doing now?” “Do we really need that?” “The Amazon and UPS guy know you by your first name.”
That old saying about Never Stop Learning…that’s me. I’m willing to try a lot of things. I take classes in person if I can (thank you Michaels and Joann). I’ve even been to some of those cool specialty conferences (Pinners Texas, Quilting and Sewing Expo, Applique Getaway, etc.) I’ll try classes on line. You-tube is awesome! I also have lots of friends who already know things…I don’t hesitate to use them. Even in this time of “social-distancing”, we can find ways to do things together. Thank you Zoom.
Some things I pretty good at and others, well let’s just say, more practice is needed. But at least I’m trying. I’ll never be able to sew like my Granny, but I still think she would be proud to know that I’ve got a machine and I’m not afraid to use it. I’ll never crochet an afghan like my Grandmother, but I will tackle some yarn projects with a loom and a circular knitting machine. I’ll never be a professional floral designer but I can make beautiful wreaths and centerpieces. I even sell these on Etsy. I have a Circuit Maker and enjoy trying new things on it.
I also love to travel. I have two sisters. One lives about 10 hours away, so I don’t see her as often as I would like. She is awesome as she spends a lot of time with our mom and really does make us all feel better knowing she can be there for Mom. The other lives close by and we do get to travel sometimes. As a matter of fact, today, May 16, 2020 will go down in infamy for us. Today was the day we were to leave on a 15 day tour of Italy (all over Italy). But alas, the whole COVID-19 thing changed our plans…at least for now. Plans are already underway for next year tho and maybe even a little longer tour (wink, wink). For now, we’ll do our part and #stayhome.
This is my next new thing, blogging. I’m brand new but many of my friends are behind me and tell me to share what I know. I love to tell stories and this seems like a natural extension to the story telling. I will be learning as I go so I ask that you bear with me as I put myself out there to share with you my stories. I’d love to hear your stories too. #inthistogether
As for future blogs, you never know what you might see here. It will be a place to share. I’ll share cool stuff I’ve tried (with pictures if I remember to take them or instructions if I have them). I’ll even share the fails, so we can laugh and learn together. I’ll share my dinner plans/recipes in hopes you’ll share yours back. The goal is to enjoy the ride and see where it takes us.
